It’s been a number of years since I read this book and I admit I do not remember plot specifics. What I do remember is it was rich literature. I remember pausing every other page or so, stunned at the way Paul Bowles writes. Not quite a cheerful, light-hearted read but so very gratifying. I was feeling disillusioned about contemporary fiction and this book was like a big, fat reassurance that it can be rad and awesome. “The Sheltering Sky” rules.
